Founded in the early 1900’s by architect Addison Mizner, Boca Raton was created with the intention of being the “foremost resort city on the North American continent”. Plans for this were halted when World War II began, when much of the land in Boca Raton was used as the site of the Boca Raton Army Air Force Base. After the war, the city started to rebuild again, and manufacturing plants began to open up shop in the area, and the downtown area went through a revitalization.
